Easy Beauty Routine – Elizabeth Adams, MD

Simple Steps for an Easy Beauty Routine

Despite the benefits a new habit may boast, habits can be hard to form. Did you know that on average, it can take anywhere from 18 to 254 days to turn a new ritual into a routine according to a study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology??? But to anyone who has ever vowed to take on a life-enhancing resolution on New Year’s Eve can attest to the struggle just weeks later.

Don’t worry- in this blog post, we WON’T give you a bunch of beauty to-dos that will leave you exhausted before you even begin. In this blog post, we WILL help you on your beautiful journey with a little bit of encouragement and a few practical tips for a manageable beauty routine because it only takes a few simple, consistent steps before you form a habit that will help you achieve the beautiful you that you have always dreamed of.

First, a few pro-tips:

  • Know yourself. A lot of beauty routines include a long list of products that must be used in strict order to be effective. If you already struggle with keeping a consistent beauty routine, a 10-step process can be frustrating and off-putting. Sometimes the simplest programs can be the most effective.
  • Give yourself some grace. While consistency is key, be forgiving with yourself. As a general rule, you should apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to your face every morning and remove all makeup every evening. But on those mornings when you wake up with just enough time to get out of the door, be flexible with yourself. Also, find quality two-in-one products like tinted moisturizers with sunscreen to speed up your routine especially on those unpredictable days.
  • Make it easy. Ever heard the phrase “out of sight, out of mind”? While you may relish your clean, uncluttered countertops, leaving your products out on a fun tray may make it both easier to access and harder to forget. Alternatively, stuffing your products away in bathroom cabinets can leave you feeling like you are on a scavenger hunt and one without a prize at the end! Speaking of prizes, invest in beauty products with naturally yummy scents like Eminence Organic’s Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant that reward both your senses and your skin.

Now, let’s get to the heavy lifting. And by heavy lifting, we mean the practical, manageable steps we promised. Here is what you need to know when it comes to preventive skin care:

{Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize}

Cleanse: Be sure to invest in a cleansing product that is right for your skin type.

With a dime-sized amount of product, apply cleanser over a damp face in small circular movements opening up the pores for the next two steps. After about 30 seconds, rinse the skin and dry with a clean, non-abrasive towel.

Tone: After cleansing the skin of superficial impurities, apply a thin layer of mild toner to the entire face. Toners help revive and nurture the skin by delivering vitamins and minerals deep into your skin’s pores.

Moisturize: Many people who do not have extremely dry skin skip this step, but hear us when we say moisturizing is ESSENTIAL. Just as our bodies must have water to function, your skin needs the hydration offered by moisturizers to look and feel its best. Be sure you are using a moisturizer that is appropriate for your skin- oilier skin needs a lightweight option while drier skin may call for a thicker product.

And always, always remember quality over quantity. If you are using wholesome products, all you really need are these 3 easy steps!

We hope that this blog empowers you on your beauty journey because it’s high time that you take some time to love and care for YOU.
